OPERA SIAM LATEST NEWS

We are gradually returning to full-staged opera programming after the crisis. It is a struggle and we acknowledge all the friends who have helped and are helping.

We will return on MAY 16, 2024 with a semi-staged concert version of Act One of Die Walküre, conducted by Somtow Sucharitkul, starring Cassandra Black, Warren Mok, and Damian Whiteley. Tickets will shortly be announced on Ticket Melon.

In JULY (dates TBA) the Opera will produce in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture a program of scenes from all ten of the opera from Somtow’s DasJati including never-before-seen excerpts from the final three operas in the series.

We’re continuing to work and Opera Siam hopes to return to a regular season in due course.

Opera Siam, entering its Twenty-Third is ASEAN's full-service opera, providing a rich season of established classics, innovative new works, contemporary opera, and world premieres of operas by Asian composers. It was the first opera company in the region to present the operas of Richard Wagner, Massenet's Thaïs, Britten's The Turn of the Screw and The Rape of Lucretia, Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle, Hans Krasa's Brundibar, Gustav Holst's Savitri, and the world premieres of a dozen operatic and balletic works by its Artistic Director, Somtow Sucharitkul, a visionary who is one of the handful of living opera composers in the world with a recognized and substantial corpus of operatic works that is performed around the world.

In the coming season there will be the July Thailand premiere of the exotic and erotic opera Salome. In addition, there will be a new production of Così fan tutte in June, conducted by Trisdee na Patalung, and a touring production of Gianni Schicchi conducted by Mickey Wongsathapornpat.
